Jason Duval is one of GTA 6's two playable protagonists, alongside Lucia Caminos. Rockstar's bio sketches him in a few lines: he grew up around grifters and crooks, joined the Army to get away from a troubled adolescence, and ended up in the Keys working for local drug runners. He wants an easy life and keeps failing to get one, and meeting Lucia could turn out to be the best or the worst thing that ever happened to him. This page covers what Rockstar has shown of him so far and what's still unconfirmed. GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026.

Where he lives and who he works for
Jason doesn't pay rent. He lives in a place owned by Brian Heder, a veteran smuggler in the Keys, and in return he helps Brian with shakedowns and turns up now and then for Brian's wife Lori's sangria. That arrangement puts him in Brian's circle from the start, along with his friend Cal Hampton.
The Army detail is worth noticing. His personal pistol, the Girardi ES9, is modeled on the Beretta 92FS, the civilian version of the US Army's M9, and the engraved Ultimate Edition version carries the 75th Ranger Regiment's motto. Rockstar hasn't said more about his service than that one line in the bio.
What the Extended Look showed
Rockstar's 26-minute gameplay showcase on August 27, 2026 gave Jason a lot more screen time than the trailers:
- A drug pickup job at the start, with the product going to Boobie Ike
- A scene with Brian and Lori, where the story is told partly in flashbacks and Jason and Brian share cigars
- A fishing trip with Cal
- A bank job getaway with Lucia and Raul Bautista, where Lucia drives and Jason shoots from the back seat
- A final job protecting a man named Andres De Leon, which starts at the airport and ends with armed men crashing a party
Playing as Jason
You switch between Jason and Lucia instantly when they're together, and with a short transition when they're apart. The Extended Look also showed switching in the middle of a mission. Most other systems Rockstar has shown, like fuel, the weapon carry limit and car theft, apply to both of them.
The relationship with Lucia is up to you. Rob Nelson, head of Rockstar North, said in September 2026 that the romance is optional and has to be nurtured, and that the two can drift apart if you don't.
On the cover
The official cover art, released June 18, 2026, has Jason standing behind Lucia with a gun drawn.
Still unknown
- His age
- Why he left the Army
- Whether the Rourke casting is right. Rockstar never announces its voice cast, so it may only be confirmed by the actor.
