GTA 6 is not coming to PC at launch. On November 19, 2026 it releases on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and Rockstar hasn't given a PC date or published PC system requirements. This page covers what we know, when a PC version is likely to arrive, and what hardware to plan for in the meantime.
Why no PC version at launch?
Rockstar has always released on console first. Former Rockstar producer John Ricchio explained the thinking in an interview with Kiwi Talkz: it's easier to build a game for fixed console hardware and then scale up to stronger PCs than the other way round. "Shrinking is a lot harder than extending to more powerful hardware," he said.
He also said it comes down to people and time, not a dislike of PC players. A team working on a PC port is a team not working on the next thing, and Rockstar has historically picked the next thing.
When will GTA 6 come to PC?
There's no date. Rockstar's history is the best guide:
| Game | Console release | PC release | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA 4 | April 2008 | December 2008 | 8 months |
| GTA 5 | September 2013 | April 2015 | 19 months |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 2018 | November 2019 | 13 months |
| Red Dead Redemption | May 2010 | October 2024 | 14 years |
The first Red Dead is the outlier. According to Ricchio, a PC version was running early on and was shelved because the team moved to GTA 5. For GTA 6, a gap of one to two years is the realistic expectation, which puts a PC release somewhere in 2027 or 2028. That's our reading of the pattern. Rockstar hasn't said anything to back it up.
Estimated PC requirements
These are estimates, not official specs. We based them on the hardware GTA 6 has to run on (PS5 and Series X are roughly an 8-core Zen 2 CPU with an RTX 2070-class GPU) and on how GTA 5's requirements rose over its life. PC ports usually ask for a bit more than console-equivalent hardware.
| Minimum (1080p, low) | Recommended (1440p, high) | |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | Ryzen 5 3600 / Core i7-8700K | Ryzen 7 5800X / Core i7-12700 |
| GPU | GTX 1080 / RX 5700, 8 GB VRAM | RTX 3070 / RX 6800, 8 to 16 GB VRAM |
| RAM | 16 GB | 32 GB |
| Storage | 150 GB or more, SSD | 150 GB or more, NVMe SSD |
An SSD will almost certainly be required, not just recommended. Both consoles stream the open world from fast NVMe storage, and a hard drive won't keep up.
Should you upgrade your PC now?
No. The PC version is probably more than a year away, hardware will be cheaper by then, and the real requirements could look different from any estimate. If you want to play in November, a console is the only option. If you're happy to wait, wait for Rockstar's official specs before you spend anything.
Ricchio's comments suggest that waiting also tends to get you a better port. RDR2's PC version, with its extra graphics settings, was worth the year-long wait for many players.
What about Xbox and PS5 performance?
Rockstar hasn't confirmed frame rates or graphics modes for consoles. Once they're confirmed, we'll add them here along with the PC details.
